Helen Thompson's Nar Phu Valley Trekking Experience

Recommended by The Sherpa Trekking Company, I was so excited to finally embark on my Nar Phu Valley trek, an adventure around the Annapurna Region that'd take me to off-the-grid terrain and faraway villages. My journey began in Kathmandu, where I was warmly welcomed to Nepal with friendly locals and beautiful sights. After taking some time to explore the city, I started to make my way to Besi Sahar, with my trusty guide leading the way.

Beginning the Trek in Bahundanda

The trek really began in Bahundanda, where we trekked up to the high-altitude Tal. From there, I got some incredible views of Manang Valley and the various glaciers around us. The trek got ever more breathtaking in Bagarchap as we trekked through pristine alpine forests and up to Kotho.

Exploring Remote Villages

From then on, we passed by Meta, Kyang, and Phu village, where I was able to take in the stunning backdrop of the Himalayas. On day nine, I had time to explore the impressive Phu village, including its ancient monasteries and gompas.

Journey to Nar Village and Khangla Base Camp

I jumped back on my feet to keep trekking on day 10 to Mahendra Pool, followed up by a trek to Nar Village and then on to Khangla Base Camp. The next few days took me to some truly special sights.

Highlights of Khangla Pass and Manang

From increasing altitude to the frozen alpine forests of Khangla Pass, I stopped in Nawal and Manang for some insight into their vibrant cultures. The trek then took me on a journey through spectacular landforms, from Tilicho Lake to Mesaokanta Pass and Kharka.

Final Leg to Jomsom and Return to Kathmandu

Finally, I made it to Jomsom, where I flew back to Pokhara, and eventually returned to Kathmandu, having completed one of the most extraordinary and eye-opening experiences of my life.
