Alan Baker: Gokyo Chola Pass Trekking Story!

Alan Baker had always wanted to do something exciting with his life; something that would push him outside of his comfort zone and give him a sense of fulfillment that he had never experienced before. When he heard about the Everest Gokyo Chola Pass Trek, he knew he had to do it.

The Journey Begins

After a long fifteen-hour flight, Alan arrived in Nepal, ready to take on the challenge. The only thing standing between him and the 15-day trek was the bustling city of Kathmandu. He spent his time sightseeing, experiencing the vibrant culture, and gathering the necessary trekking gear before setting off on his adventure.

From Lukla to Phakding

Alan took a short flight to Lukla, where he enjoyed a quick lunch before trekking to Phakding, a small village that would be his home for the night. Despite feeling the effects of the high altitude, Alan was determined to push forward.

Exploring Namche Bazaar

The next day, Alan trekked to Namche Bazaar, where he spent two days acclimatizing. During his stay, he visited monasteries, immersed himself in local culture, participated in traditional Sherpa dancing, and marveled at the beauty of the Himalayas.

The Climb to Phortse Dranga

From Namche, Alan trekked to Phortse Dranga, located at an elevation of 3,800 meters. The steep terrain and challenging climb tested his limits, but his determination kept him going.

Reaching Gokyo

Alan continued his journey to Machhermo and finally arrived at Gokyo, his ultimate destination. The serene Gokyo Lake left him in awe, and he couldn’t help but admire the breathtaking beauty of the surroundings.

Conquering Gokyo Ri

The next day, Alan climbed Gokyo Ri, where he was rewarded with panoramic views of majestic peaks, including Cho Oyu, Everest, Makalu, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku. The experience was nothing short of magical.

Crossing Chola Pass

From Gokyo, Alan trekked through Dragnak and Dzonglha, eventually reaching Gorak Shep at 5,140 meters. The thin air and stunning views kept him motivated, and the occasional snacks along the way were a welcome treat.

The Final Stretch

Alan continued his journey through Kalapathar and Dingboche before reaching Tangboche, his last stop before returning to Kathmandu. With a heavy heart, he trekked back to Namche Bazaar and caught a flight to Lukla, followed by a drive back to Kathmandu.

A Journey to Remember

Back in Kathmandu, Alan reflected on his incredible 15-day adventure. He had pushed his limits, conquered his fears, and experienced the Himalayas in a way he never thought possible. The memories of his trek would stay with him forever.
