Here's Alan Baker Story that might interest you too!
Alan Bakey had always wanted to do something exciting with his life; something that would push him outside of his comfort zone and give him a sense of fulfillment that he had never experienced before. When he heard about the Everest Gokyo Cholapass Trek, he knew he had to do it. After a brutal fifteen-hour flight, Alan soon arrived in Nepal and was ready to take on the challenge; the only thing standing between him and the 15-day trek was the roadblock in the form of Kathmandu. He did some sightseeing, experienced the hustle and bustle of the capital city, bought some trekking gear and was off on his way. After a short flight to Lukla where he grabbed some lunch, Alan made his way to Phakding, a small village which would be his home for the night. He was already feeling the effects of the high altitude, but that didn’t stop him from pushing on to Namche Bazaar the next day.
Namche Bazaar would be his home for the next two days, with the first being reserved for rest and acclimatization. While there, he visited some monasteries, got a taste of local culture, partook in some traditional Sherpa dancing and truly appreciated the beauty of the Himalayas. From Namche, Alan trekked up to Phortse Dranga, located at an elevation of 3800m. The terrain was steep and the climb was challenging, but Alan was determined to push on. From there, he moved on to Machhermo and finally, Gokyo, his ultimate destination. The lake at Gokyo was breathtaking and Alan couldn’t help but marvel at the beauty of it all. The next day he decided to climb up to Gokyo Ri, where he got the chance to soak in the mountains in all their glory, including Cho-oyu, Everest, Makalu, Amadablam and Thamserku.
From Gokyo, Alan continued the trek through Dragnak and Dzonglha, before finally making it to Gorkhse at 5140m. The thin air and the breathtaking views kept him pushing through, and of course, the snacks offered along the way weren’t too hard to turn down. The journey then continued through Kalapathar and Dingboche, before Alan made it to Tangboche, which would be his last stop before finally returning to Kathmandu. With a heavy heart, Alan made his way down to Namche Bazaar on the last day of his trek, before finally catching a flight back to Lukla and then an extended drive back to Kathmandu. Once back in the city, Alan thought about all the things he had accomplished in his 15 days out on the trails. He had pushed himself and melted away any fear or apprehension he had before his journey began. He had truly experienced the Himalayas, and he knew the memories would stay with him forever.
