School Teaching Practices Tour:
Nepal Tour and School Teaching Practices are a great opportunity for foreigners to gain invaluable work experience in a new culture, while making a direct contribution to the development of Nepal. Through the Sherpa Trekking Company, foreigners can join teaching programs in the regions of Sindhupalchok, Kavre, Solukhumbu, Dolakha, Chitwan, and Mustang. In these programs, volunteers teach in both local schools and monasteries, delivering primary and secondary classes in either English or Math. Volunteers also help promote key learning initiatives, such as health and hygiene, gender equality, human rights, and environmental sustainability. In addition to teaching, volunteers have the opportunity to explore some of the most culturally diverse regions of Nepal. Residents of the areas are extremely welcoming, providing an atmosphere of warmth and friendship. Trekking options range from day hikes to more intensive multi-day mountain treks. Sightings of flora and fauna, from Himalayan Blue Sheep to Red Pandas, are possible in certain areas. Additionally, many of these treks come with the opportunity to pass through ancient Himalayan villages and visit traditional monasteries rich in Buddhist culture and history. The Sherpa Trekking Company also provides an opportunity to assist in the construction of local infrastructure. This includes initiating and assisting with projects such as building and renovating schools, community centers, and monasteries, as well as helping in the conservation of local areas and natural resources. Volunteers receive a comprehensive pre-trip orientation, teaching training, and 24-hour on-site support from the Sherpa Trekking Company. Food, accommodation, and transportation are all provided. No experience is necessary for the teaching work, only a desire to help and share. Anyone looking to explore Nepal while making a valuable contribution to the local economy should take a look at joining these Nepal Tour and School Teaching Practices programs, offering by the Sherpa Trekking Company.
Suze Anna Marie had been wanting to explore the majestic realm of Nepal since she heard of the mountain treks and adventures it had to offer. She decided to book a 7-day trip to Nepal with the Sherpa Trekking Company. My week-long school volunteer teaching experience in Nepal was truly an unforgettable experience that I will never forget. I was given the opportunity to teach at Gyan Mandir School in Sindhupalchok through the help of Sherpa Trekking Company. Excitement filled my veins as I arrived at the school campus, expecting to be embraced with open arms from the students and staff. I was welcomed with a traditional Nepali greeting from the Students and was immediately welcomed by the headmaster and his staff. We had a small orientation about the school, its history, and its mission. From the get-go, I could tell that the school had a passionate dedication to the education of its students and to the growth and development of its community. The first day of classes was quite the ride! I had the opportunity to teach English to the class of GRADE 2 & 5. Every student had their own way of learning and so I tried my best to make the classes fun and interactive. We worked together to create a strong foundation for the students. The next few days were spent completing a variety of projects to help build the students’ knowledge and skills in English. We participated in a mock debate, played a jeopardy game, and developed collaborative projects to help improve students’ analytical and creative thinking. But perhaps the most memorable experience was interacting with the elders of the school. They shared stories and wisdom with us, and it was quite enlightening. They helped me understand more deeply how education can be a means of fostering change in a society. Overall, this was a great learning experience for me and has made me appreciate the value of education. I am thankful to the Sherpa Trekking Company, the Gyan Mandir School, and all the wonderful people I had the pleasure of meeting during my stay.
