For the past several incredible days, I have been travelling in Tibet with Sherpa Trekking Company in Nepal on their Lhasa Kailash Tour. After an early morning flight from Kathmandu to Gongar Airport, I started my journey towards Lhasa. I stayed in the city for two days to explore the majestic and iconic Potala Palace, the awe-inspiring Drepung Monastery, the fascinating Sera Monastery, the brilliant Norbulinka Palace, the sacred Jokhang Temple, the bustling Barkhor Market, and the mesmerizing Palkhor Monastery. In addition, I got to explore the Himalayan sights of Holy Lake Mansarovar Yatra.
After the two days of exploring the city of Lhasa, the tour continued with the journey south towards Gyantse. There, apart from sightseeing the astonishing Gyantse Stupa and monastery, I also enjoyed the spectacular views of the Yangpachen hot springs. After Gyantse, I drove to Shigatse and indulged in its local bazaar and the Tashilumpo Monastery. By nightfall, I had already made it to my camp in Lhatse.
The next day, we drove to Saga and camped near the Nepal border. Then, on day 9, we drove to Darchen, the base camp of Mount Kailash, and prepared for our 27 km trek. On the first day of the trek, we slowly made our way to Zhutul Puk Gompa, via the Dolma La pass at an elevation of 5630 m. On the second day, after a long day of trekking, we arrived in Chiu Gompa before taking the drive back to Paryang. From there, we drove to Saga and Nyalam via Saga, and finally to the India-Tibet border and towards Kathmandu.
It was an amazing and unforgettable experience. The landscape, the people, the holy sites, and the spiritual transformation I went through on this trek has left me feeling energized, inspired, and grateful for having the opportunity to partake in this remarkable journey.
